LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler arrested Jesse Malicote age 46 of East Bernstadt on Tuesday afternoon November 7, 2023 at approximately 2:30 PM.
The arrest occurred off Highway 490 near East Bernstadt after Sgt. Mehler was dispatched to a complaint of a male subject armed with a hammer that was allegedly being disorderly in a business in East Bernstadt and was spitting on and at customers, he had also urinated on store property,
Sgt. Mehler arrived at the scene and observed the suspect walking northbound on Highway 490.
He activated his emergency equipment and attempted to make contact with the suspect who attempted to flee on foot as Sgt. Mehler gave commands to stop.
The suspect ran onto a gravel parking lot and behind a large barn where he briefly struggled with Sgt. Mehler attempting to kick Sgt. Mehler.
Sgt. Mehler noted the suspect kept is hands under his shirt in front of him where Sgt. Mehler found him clutching the hammer that was reported in the original complaint.
A struggle continued until Sgt. Mehler was able to place the suspect in custody.
Jesse Malicote was charged with:
- Disorderly conduct – second-degree
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
- Resisting arrest
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
