LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Reed along with Deputy Tommy Houston arrested Richard Douglas Wyatt age 52 of Corbin on Friday morning September 15, 2023 at approximately 11:36 AM.
The arrest occurred at a residence off Horse Creek Road, approximately 8 miles South of London after deputies developed information on the whereabouts of a subject that had fled from Deputy Reed on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
In that incident, Deputy Reed was dispatched to a complaint on Horse Creek Road. Deputy Reed encountered a subject there who when questioned gave false identifying information and produced a CDL belonging to another individual and claimed that he was that individual.
Deputy Reed was able to determine the subject’s true identity as Richard Douglas Wyatt of Corbin, KY and learned that Wyatt was wanted on three outstanding warrants.
The subject had entered a residence there while Deputy Reed was conducting his investigation. The home owner gave Deputy Reed permission to enter the residence and as he did the male subject who misidentified himself exited the rear of the residence running into a woodline.
Deputy Reed gave foot pursuit and was assisted by K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler, both conducted a search for the suspect who was not located.

Laurel deputies were able to locate the suspect on Friday morning at the same residence and arrested him without incident.
Richard Douglas Wyatt was charged with:
- Giving officer false identifying information
- Theft of identity of another without consent
- Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
In addition, this subject was charged on a Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of:
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – second offense
- Also, the subject was charged on a Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on numerous registration and license violations.
In addition, this individual was charged on a third Whitley District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of:
- Public intoxication – controlled substances
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
