Man Believing People Were After Him In London, Kentucky Sprints From Car Into Police Department

LONDON, KY - A man who sprinted from his car into the London Police Department claiming someone was after him was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

John Payton Lewis, 22, of Carter Road, London, was arrested at 7:16 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the police department by London Police Ofc. Hobie Daugherty, assisted by Lt. Ryan Jackson and Cpl. Ben Webb.

According to Ofc. Daugherty’s report, Laurel Dispatch personnel observed Lewis sprint from his vehicle into the police department. Upon contact, it was apparent immediately that Lewis was under the influence of an unknown substance.

Lewis was acting erratically and was in a paranoid state believing people were after him. He thought someone had placed a tracker on his vehicle and that his father had been kidnapped. Ofc. Daugherty confirmed that Lewis’s father was okay.

The police department also received several calls about Lewis, including a couple from his former employer, who considered pressing trespassing charges. The employer said he came in and was acting in a strange manner and was terminated. They advised they’d never seen him act in such a manner.

Lewis failed several field sobriety tests and was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
