ORANGE PARK, FL - The Clay County Sheriff's Office, Florida is trporting that on June 10, 2023, John Thigpen was arrested by the Clay County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Robbery-Homicide Unit in connection with the shooting death of a 35-year-old male.
CCSO deputies responded to a residence in the 500 block of Constitution Dr. in Orange Park after receiving a call from John Thigpen reporting a shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies detained Thigpen and discovered an injured adult male laying in the kitchen of the home. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body and was pronounced deceased by Clay County Fire Rescue (CCFR) who responded to the scene.
The CCSO Robbery Homicide Unit initiated an investigation into the incident, with detectives conducting interviews and collecting forensic evidence at the scene with the assistance of CCSO Crime Scene Technicians (CST).
Through their investigation, detectives learned that Thigpen shot the victim hours before he reported the incident to authorities.
Thigpen and the victim are known to each other, and there was a dispute between the two of them that occurred prior to the shooting
John Thigpen has been arrested and is currently being held at the Clay County Jail on charges of:
- 2nd-degree murder

Sheriff Michelle Cook expressed gratitude to the patrol officers for their prompt response and commended the detectives and CSTs for their dedicated work in thoroughly investigating the case.
Sheriff Cook also expressed her condolences, stating, "It's unfortunate that an incident like this between two friends has cost a person their life."
