RICHMOND, KY (May 31, 2023) - The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that on Monday, April 15, 2023 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a potential sexual assault which had taken place within Madison County.
The initial investigation conducted by Sgt. Paul Lay resulted in a SANE exam being completed at a local medical facility on the victim. The case was subsequently reassigned to Detective Donovan Nolan who was able to locate the suspect and collect a DNA standard.
Detective Nolan contacted the Kentucky State Police Laboratory Rapid DNA section in Frankfort, KY to determine if the case would qualify for examination. Technicians qualified the case and within a month Detective Nolan received the results from the Rapid DNA analysis.
Based on the results of the analysis an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, Edward Newton.
Edward Lee Newton, 46 years-old of Richmond KY, was arrested on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 by KSP Trooper Ty Robinson in Irvine, KY without incident.
Edward Newton is charged with:
- RAPE, 1ST DEGREE - INCAPABLE OF CONSENT-PHYSICALLY HELPLESS
This individual was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
