JACKSON COUNTY, OR (May 3, 2023) - The Oregon State Police (OSP) is reporting that on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at approximately 3:00 A.M., OSP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5, near milepost 1, in Jackson County.
The preliminary investigation indicated a Chevrolet Venture, occupied by Javier Leon Guerrero, 55 of Sacramento, CA, was parked on the shoulder of the highway with an occupant sleeping inside.
A Volvo commercial motor vehicle and trailer, operated by Rajabov Shokhrukh, 31 of La Mesa, CA, was traveling on the northbound shoulder of Interstate 5 when it crashed into the back of the parked Chevrolet.
The occupant of the Chevrolet (Guerrero) was declared deceased at the scene. The operator of the CMV was uninjured.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
OSP was assisted by Jackson County STAR, Ashland PD, Ashland Fire, Cal Fire, and ODOT.
