Renita Crouch inspired to go into medical field following father’s diagnosis with heart disease
MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (March 10, 2023) – Renita Crouch, PA, recently joined the CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiology team in Mount Sterling. A Kentucky native, Crouch enjoys working with patients in the Commonwealth and is eager to form a connection with those in the Mount Sterling area.
Crouch has worked in cardiology throughout her more than three decades in health care. Her interest in the medical field started at an early age when her father was diagnosed with heart disease, and she credits her parents for supporting her as she found a career she loved.
“I was athletic and played many sports in school, so I originally thought physical therapy would be ideal for me,” said Crouch. “I later discovered the physician assistant program and knew it was the perfect fit.”
Crouch said she likes to take the time to get to know all patients and believes bonding with them can make them more comfortable, also allowing her to do the best job possible. She passes that mantra on to her son, who is in medical school.
“I’ve told him that the first thing you do when you walk into a room is to make a personal connection with your patients. As long as I’ve done this, walking into a room and easing a patient’s nerves has become routine,” said Crouch. “I try to remember how I feel when I go to the doctor, and I put myself in the patient’s shoes and find ways to calm them down. That usually entails just sitting and talking to them to get to know them better.”
Crouch said the most rewarding part of her job is seeing people turn their lives around after taking her advice. She said simple lifestyle changes, like a better diet and regular exercise, can make all the difference in patients’ lives.
“I vividly remember meeting with a younger patient who needed to make serious changes to improve his heart health. He listened to what I said, adjusted his diet and exercise, and got better,” said Crouch. “I was just as excited as he was when he got better. He did everything, and I was just along for the ride.”
Crouch graduated from the University of Kentucky, where she completed the physician assistant program, and has an extensive background in caring for cardiology patients and primary and secondary prevention. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and has earned certifications in advanced cardiovascular life support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Crouch is also a member of the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Crouch and her husband, a cattle farmer, live in Anderson County and have two adult children; they are expecting a grandchild soon. She enjoys staying active in church, where she participates in music ministry, watching sports and gardening.
