PARK CITY, KY – The Kentucky State Police is reporting that on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022 at approximately 6:00 A.M., KSP Post 3 Bowling Green was requested by the Barren County Sheriff’s Office to investigate a fatal collision in Barren County. Troopers responded to the scene of the collision located near the 50 mile marker of Interstate 65 southbound.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Joseph E. Gilkey, 65, of Bowling Green, was operating a 2021 Toyota SUV northbound on I-65 near the 50 mile marker. Gilkey for unknown reasons exited the left side of the roadway and entered into the gravel median.
Gilkey’s vehicle continued into the southbound lanes of I-65 where it struck a 2010 Saturn SUV being operated by Amy J. Lee of, Hamilton, OH.
Joseph Gilkey was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Barren County Coroners Office.
Amy Lee was flown by Air Methods to Vanderbilt University Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. There were also two juvenile passengers in Lee’s vehicle that were transported by Barren County EMS to T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
The investigation is being led by Trooper Michael Wathen. He was assisted at the scene by Barren County EMS, Barren County Sheriff’s Office, Cave City Fire Department, Park City Fire Department, Air Methods, Barren County Coroner’s Office, and KSP personnel.
