LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9/shift Sgt. Gary Mehler along with Deputy Travis Napier arrested two individuals on Tuesday night August 17, 2021 at approximately 9:29 PM.
The arrest occurred off American Greeting Card Road after deputies were dispatched to a residence there to conduct a welfare check regarding a small child reportedly in the custody of a female subject possibly under the influence.
Upon arrival at the scene deputies conducted an investigation and determined that the mother of the one-year-old child (son) there was under the influence.
Through investigation deputies learned that allegedly the child had almost fell down a flight of seven stairs earlier.
A male subject there (reportedly the boyfriend), was also determined to be under the influence and had 2 outstanding warrants.
The arrested individuals were identified as:
Janet R. Gehret age 36 of Corbin charged with:
- Wanton endangerment – second-degree
- Endangering the welfare of a minor
- Public intoxication – controlled substances
Randy L. Masur age 43 of Corbin charged with:
- Public intoxication – controlled substances
In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:
- Failure to appear in court on charges of operating on suspended or revoked operator's license
Also, the subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging:
- Failure to appear in court on charges of public intoxication – controlled substances
These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Social services assisted the sheriff’s office and placed the child with other family members.
