Possible Suicide in Laurel County, Kentucky Prevented by Conversations with LSO Crisis Negotiator

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root Along with Laurel County Sheriff's Lieut. Chris Edwards who is a Sheriff’s office crisis negotiator, responded with detectives and deputies to a 911 call regarding an apparent suicidal individual on Monday afternoon May 10, 2021 at approximately 12:44 PM.

While enroute to the scene Sheriff's investigators learned that allegedly an individual had a pistol to his head wanting to commit suicide.

Family had fled to a nearby residence awaiting the Sheriff's office.

Upon arrival, Sheriff's Investigators secured the perimeter of the residence and crisis negotiator Lieut. Chris Edwards made contact with the individual by phone and was able to talk to the individual inside the residence and following several conversations convinced the individual to lay the weapon down and exit the residence to Sheriff's Investigators outside.

The individual in distress was safely removed from the scene and transported by the Sheriff's office to a regional treatment facility.

Assisting for the Laurel County Sheriff's office were: Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Capt. Robbie Grimes, Lieut. Chris Edwards, Detective Robert Reed, Detective Taylor McDaniel, Detective Bryon Lawson, Detective James Sizemore Detective Brad Mitchell and Bailiff Daniel Reed.
