Police dispatched to a domestic dispute in Southern Ky. locate a wanted suspect & seize drugs, guns, cash and a safe during the investigation

SOMERSET, KY - According to Sheriff Greg Speck of Pulaski County, a Somerset man was charged with numerous drug-related charges following an investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.

On October 1, 2020, at approximately 9:00 AM, Deputy Danny Pevley was dispatched to a domestic dispute where a male subject was alleged to have assaulted a female. Deputy Pevley arrived on the scene, along with Deputy Trent Massey and Deputy Karl Clinard. Deputy Pevley was unable to get a response from individuals at the residence initially.

While Deputies were at the residence, a female approached and told them she lived at the residence and had a dispute with her boyfriend.

Once obtaining the identity of the boyfriend, Jason E. Woods, age 41, of Somerset, Deputies determined Woods was wanted on a Pulaski County Circuit Court indictment for:

  • Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense (Methamphetamine)

After a short time, Woods came to the front door of the residence.

Woods was taken into custody on the indictment and, upon questioning, revealed he had Marijuana in the residence. Woods and his girlfriend consented to a search of the residence.

When Deputies searched Woods person, they located;

  • $1,206.00 in cash in his pockets

During the search of the residence, Deputies located:

  • A large quantity of Marijuana (Approximately 3 pounds)
  • A large quantity of Methamphetamine (Approximately 31 grams)
  • Digital scales
  • Baggies
  • Two safes

Deputies located two safes at the residence and were able to access one. Woods stated the other safe contained illegal drugs, but deputies could not gain entry into the safe. The safe was taken along with the other items located in the residence.

Also located in the search of the residence was:

  • Two handguns, including a .380 Bersa pistol that had previously been reported as stolen
  • A 12-gauge shotgun

Deputy Massey lodged Woods at the Pulaski County Detention Center on the indictment. Deputy Pevley returned to the Sheriff’s Office with the safe from the residence. Deputy Pevley applied for and was granted a search warrant for the safe based on probable cause gained at the residence.

Deputies were able to gain access to the safe. Once inside of the safe, Deputies located:

  • Suspected Methamphetamine (Approximately 451 grams or 1 pound)
  • Suspected Heroin (approximately 5 grams)
  • Suspected Oxycodone
  • Suspected Xanax
  • Various pills
  • $7,211.00 in cash
  • Baggies
  • Paraphernalia

After reviewing Woods’ criminal history, it was discovered he was previously convicted of felony charges prohibiting him from possessing firearms.

In addition to the Pulaski Circuit Court Indictment, Deputy Pevley placed the following additional charges on Woods:

  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (methamphetamine) (> or = 2 grams) (Enhancement)
  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (heroin) (> or = 2 but < 100 grams) (Enhancement)
  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (> or = 10 D.U. drug unspecified)
  • Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon
  • Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
  • Trafficking in Marijuana 1st offense (8oz. to <5 lbs.) (Enhancement)
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 3rd Degree, 1st Offense (> or = 20 D.U. but < or = 120 D.U. Drug Unspecified) (Enhancement)

Deputies were assisted by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.

Woods was lodged on all charges at the Pulaski County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by Deputy Dan Pevley and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.
