Man allegedly attempting to get into cars of patrons at a business arrested in southern Laurel County, Ky.

LONDON, KY (August 29, 2020) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's K-9 Deputy Gary Mehler arrested Brandon L. Copeland age 30 of Dunlap, Tennessee on Thursday night August 27, 2020 at approximately 11:15 PM.

The arrest occurred in a business parking lot off West Cumberland Gap Parkway approximately 9 miles South of London after Deputy Mehler was dispatched to a complaint of a male subject attempting to get into cars of patrons at a business there.

Upon arrival at the scene, Deputy Mehler located the suspect nearby and attempted to conduct an investigation as the suspect began to create a disturbance there yelling and screaming - he was determined to be under the influence.

While being escorted to the police cruiser the suspect attempted to pull away from the arresting Deputy, however was placed in the police cruiser without further incident.

Brandon L. Copeland was charged with:

  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Resisting arrest
  • Disorderly conduct – second-degree

In addition, this subject was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging

  • Failure to appear in court on charges of public intoxication – Controlled substances

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
