Helton and Sizemore/Clay County Detention Center
MANCHESTER, KY (July 27, 2020) - The Clay County Sheriff's Office is reporting that: On July 26, 2020 at approximately 10:50 AM Clay County Chief Deputy Clifton Jones arrested James Helton, 23 of North Highway 421 and Alexius Sizemore, 19 of Coal Hollow Road.
The arrests occurred while Chief Deputy Jones was providing patrol within the Oneida Community when a vehicle matching the description of a stolen truck from an earlier complaint passed him at a high rate of speed.
Chief Deputy Jones initiated his emergency lights with attempt to conduct a traffic stop when the driver of the truck accelerated with intent to evade Chief Deputy Jones.
The driver of the vehicle began passing cars and entering into oncoming traffic when the vehicle struck another vehicle on Little Bullskin Road and eventually became disabled when it hit an embankment.
The above mentioned subject’s both fled the scene, Chief Deputy Jones located the male subject shortly after a brief foot pursuit and was placed under arrest without further incident.
The female individual was later caught when she attempted to make contact with a resident in the area for aid.
James Helton was charged with:
• Wanton Endangerment- 1st Degree
• Leaving Scene of Accident- Failure to Render Aid or Assistance
• Operating on Suspended or Revoked Operator License
• Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
• Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of ALC/DRUGS/ETC.
• Theft By Unlawful Taking- Auto
Alexius Sizemore was charged with:
• Operating Motor Vehicle on Revoked Operators License
• Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
• Theft by Unlawful Taking- Auto
• Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree
