BARBOURVILLE, KY (April 29, 2020) - The Knox County Sheriff's Department is reporting that: Early Monday morning April 27, 2020 just after midnight, Deputy Bobby Jones of the Knox County Sheriff's Department was conducting routine patrol when he observed a 2015 Kia driven by 67 year old Jana Couch of Barbourville cross the center line on KY 11 South. Deputy Jones initiated a traffic stop to conduct a Roadside Impairment investigation.
Deputy Jones found two other occupants, 45 year old Elvis Hall of Flat Lick, KY and 41 year old Kevin Riley of Barbourville, KY in the vehicle with Couch.
During the investigation Hall was found to have an active Knox County warrant and Riley had a warrant out of Tennessee.
Jones then obtained consent to search the vehicle from Couch and found syringes, a quarter pound of suspected Methamphetamine, other drug paraphernalia and a 9mm handgun in the passenger compartment.
Couch, Hall and Riley were taken into custody and transported to the Knox County Detention Center.
Jana Couch was charged with:
- Careless Driving
- Failure to Produce Insurance Proof
- No Registration Receipt
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Offense - Methamphetamine
She was additionally charged by the jail for:
- Promoting Contraband
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
Elvis Hall was charged with:
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Offense - Methamphetamine
Kevin Riley was charged with:
- Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Offense - Methamphetamine
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Offense - Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
These three individuals were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
