Chief Deputy Jeremy Vega

HYDEN, KY - The Leslie County Sheriff’s Office shines April Employee Spotlight on Chief Deputy in the following report:

Jeremy Vega Chief Deputy 195

Jeremy Vega was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 1995 Jeremy moved to Clay County, Kentucky with his family and in 1998 he was hired by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

In 1999 Jeremy graduated the Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond, Kentucky.

After Jeremy’s graduation he served as a Deputy Sheriff in Clay County and then was promoted to Chief Deputy.

In 2003 Jeremy left the Clay County Sheriff’s Office to join the Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Division. After a short time Jeremy returned to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office where he again rose to Chief Deputy.

In 2007 Jeremy decided to take a break from Law Enforcement and drove a truck for around 10 years and a few other other jobs. It seems these jobs never really sparked much of an inspiration because Jeremy’s heart has and always has been in Law Enforcement.

In 2019 Jeremy heard that the Leslie County Sheriff’s Office had an opening for a certified deputy and he took a leap of faith and followed his dreams back to Eastern Kentucky near his Clay County home.

At the time of Jeremy’s application to Leslie County, we here, were in dire need of someone with his skills. Jeremy started here in April 2019 and has been very successful in combating our drug abuse and trafficking issues. Jeremy now has over 1,000 drug related cases in his 10 year career, some of which seized large amounts of currency, drugs, and vehicles.

In August 2019 Jeremy was promoted to Chief Deputy Sheriff of Leslie County and we couldn’t be more proud of him and his accomplishments in the past year.

Chief Vega says “My motivation comes from the effects drugs have made on my own family, I think everyone can change, sometimes they just need a push”.

Chief Jeremy Vega may be from Atlanta but we think he’s right at home here in Leslie County.

Chief Vega has four kids and one grandchild. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and driving sports cars.

From all of us: Thanks Chief for your service and dedication!
