Qualifying Exam for Clay County PVA Scheduled for May 12, 2020

FRANKFORT, KY – The Kentucky Department of Revenue has announced a special examination will be held at 10 A.M. EDT on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, to qualify prospective candidates for the vacant office of Clay County Property Valuation Administrator (PVA). This special examination is required by Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 132.380(1). 

Applicants must meet certain criteria as set forth in Section 100 of the Kentucky Constitution. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be at least 24 years of age;
  • Be a citizen of Kentucky;
  • Have resided in the state at least two years preceding the election; and
  • Have resided in Clay County at least one year preceding the election.

A government issued photo ID will be required for all examinees. The examination will be held at 10 AM EDT on Tuesday, May 12 at:

Due to the social distancing requirements during the COVID-19 emergency, qualified individuals interested in taking the examination must pre-register no later than Wednesday, May 6, with the Department of Revenue. This is necessary to ensure the examination space adheres to the recommended social distancing requirements.

The written examination is based on verbal and mathematical skills. All materials necessary to take the examination, including calculators, are supplied. There is no study guide for the exam.

Qualified examinees with a score of 70 percent or better will be eligible for appointment by the Governor to serve as Clay County PVA until a special election is held. That special election is currently scheduled to occur in November 2020. The individual appointed PVA may be eligible to seek re-election. The winner of that special election will complete the remainder of the term that expires in December 2022.
