LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kyle Gray along with Lieut. Chris Edwards are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred at a residence off Highway 490, approximately 7 miles north of London early Saturday morning March 7, 2020 at approximately 2:22 AM.
Sheriff's Investigators report that allegedly a domestic argument between husband and wife James Tyler McCowan and Charity McCowan turned deadly resulting in the husband being shot at least two times with a pistol. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.
The victim is identified as:
James Tyler McCowan age 35 of East Bernstadt.
An autopsy will be conducted in Frankfort.
The case investigation will be presented to a Laurel County grand jury.
Assisting for the Laurel County Sheriff's office were: Sgt. John Inman, Deputy James Fox, Deputy Tommy Houston, Deputy Robert Reed, and Deputy Taylor McDaniel.
Also assisting at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
