Stolen Vehicle recovered in Laurel County / Man arrested & Drugs found

LONDON, KY - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Joey Robinson arrested Anthony Barnett age 36 of Brush Creek Circle, Orlando, KY early Sunday morning February 2, 2020 at approximately 1:40 AM.

The arrest occurred off US 25 approximately 8 miles north of London while Deputy Robinson was attempting to locate a suspicious vehicle on a complaint there. Deputy Robinson located the vehicle – a black colored Chevrolet Tahoe on the shoulder of the roadway in a curve and a male subject at the vehicle.

Deputy Robinson activated his emergency equipment making a turn back to the vehicle when he observed the male subject run down the roadway crossing the roadway attempting to flee the scene.

Following a short foot chase, the suspect struggled briefly with Deputy Robinson before being taken into custody.

The male subject was found in possession of suspected Crystal Meth and hypodermic needles.

In addition, an investigation conducted on the vehicle determined that it was a reported stolen vehicle stolen out of Lexington.

Anthony Barnett was charged with:

  • Theft by unlawful taking – auto $10,000 or more
  • Fleeing or evading police – second-degree – on foot
  • Resisting arrest
  • Menacing
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – Methamphetamine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

This subject was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
