Burn Ban violation arrest in London

LONDON, KY (Sept. 21, 2019) - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Allen Turner arrested Thomas S. Saylor age 44 of Waterworks Rd., London on Friday afternoon September 20, 2019 at approximately 4: 50 P.M.

The arrest occurred off Jerry's Road, in London, after Deputy Turner who was on routine patrol observed a large amount of smoke rising from behind several businesses off Murray Lane off West Highway 80 in London. Deputy Turner then radioed for London Fire Dept. to respond to the scene.

Deputy Turner then observed a male subject sitting in the middle of the fire that was burning around him eating a hamburger as the flames grew taller.

Deputy Turner then tried to make contact with the male subject who ignored him so Deputy Turner entered the burn area rescuing the male subject who pulled away and started yelling and trying to fight Deputy Turner.

After exiting the danger zone with the male subject Deputy Turner learned from the subject that he had allegedly attempted to burn the leaves there and then the subject became extremely irate stating he was an American war general of West Virginia. This subject was determined to be under the influence.

Thomas S. Saylor was charged with:

  • Local burning ban
  • Resisting arrest
  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Disorderly conduct – second-degree

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Assisting Deputy Turner on his investigation was: Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Joey Robinson, Deputy Brent France, and Deputy Travis Napier. Assisting on extinguishing the flames was London City Fire Department.
