Headlight violation in Laurel County leads to arrest

Laurel County, Ky. (Sept. 19, 2019) -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Tommy Houston along with Deputy Landry Collett, Deputy Gary Mehler, and Sgt. John Inman arrested Edna R. Hampton age 41 of East Bernstadt early Wednesday morning September 18, 2019 at approximately 1:50 AM.

The arrest occurred on I-75 approximately 1 mile north of London after deputies conducted a traffic stop on a tan colored Chevrolet Silverado for a headlight violation and determined through investigation during the traffic stop that the driver was under the influence.

The driver admitted smoking Marijuana, consuming three beers in less than an hour, and using Meth the previous date.

Edna R. Hampton was charged with:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense
  • Failure of nonowner operator to maintain required insurance – first offense
  • One headlight

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
