Laurel County, Ky. (September 14, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Joey Robinson along with Sgt. Greg Poynter and Deputy Allen Turner arrested Willis Raymond Benway age 53 of Locust Grove Rd., Keavy on Friday afternoon September 13, 2019 at approximately 2:20 PM.
The arrest occurred off Pine Top Road, approximately 4 miles west of London after deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle complaint in Cloud Subdivision off Pine Top Road.
As deputies approached the area, they observed the suspect green SUV pulling out of Cloud Subdivision observing that the driver was unrestrained.
A traffic stop was conducted and during an investigation of the driver it was learned that he was a convicted felon. This individual had a 9mm Taurus hand gun in a holster on his hip.
Willis Raymond Benway was charged with:
- Failure to wear seatbelt
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
