Arrest in Laurel Co. following a Suspicious Subject complaint

Laurel County, Ky. (Sept. 13, 2019) - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Joey Robinson along with Deputy Brent France and Sgt. Greg Poynter arrested Gary Lynn Maggard age 64 of London on Tuesday afternoon September 10, 2019 at approximately 4:30 PM.

The arrest occurred off Barbourville Road at a business approximately 3 miles South of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a suspicious subject there.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies learned that employees there suspected the individual may be under the influence.

When deputies located the suspect, he attempted to eat 2 pills later determined to be Gabapentin.

An investigation was conducted and this subject was determined to be under the influence.

In addition, this subject was found in possession of a clear container having 23 Gabapentin pills in it.

Gary Lynn Maggard was charged with:

  • Public intoxication – controlled substances
  • Possession of a controlled substance – third-degree
  • Prescription controlled substances not in proper container – first offense

This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
