What an accused shoplifter found with a hypodermic needle told Police / London

London, Ky. - Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Gary Mehler along with Sgt. Greg Poynter, Sgt. John Inman, and Deputy Rick Cloyd arrested Tonya Gail Parms age 40 of Reams Lane, London on Wednesday night March 20, 2019 at approximately 9:49 PM.

The arrest occurred at Dollar General store on KY 472 in London after deputies were dispatched to a shoplifting complaint there.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies learned that allegedly this individual concealed food items in a large pink bag that she was carrying.

The items included Reese's cups, cooked ham slices, smoked ham slices, Slim Jim Gable top, Armor pepperonis, Clover Valley sugar all with a total value of $48.80.

This individual stated she was taking the items for a family who needed it.

During arrest this subject was found in possession of a hypodermic needle, and suspected Crystal Methamphetamine

Tonya Gail Parms was charged with:

  • An outstanding warrant
  • Possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Theft by unlawful taking – shoplifting under $500
  • A Laurel Circuit Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear for drug court on charges of five counts of trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense
  • Conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance – first offense
  • Persistent felony offender I
  • This individual was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
