Police asking public's help in identifying robbery suspects / Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Sgt. Brett Reeves along with Deputy Shannon Jones, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Deputy Taylor McDaniel, Deputy Jake Miller and his K-9 “Gotcha”, Detective Daniel Grigsby, and Deputy Gilbert Acciardo are investigating a robbery which occurred at Loves Truck Stop, approximately 10 miles South of London early Friday morning March 1, 2019 at approximately 6:25 AM.

The investigating deputies report that allegedly two individuals shoplifted electronic items and tools from the truck stop carrying the stolen items to their vehicle. When the manager confronted the pair at their vehicle, the male subject who was driving the vehicle, fled the scene striking the manager in the leg with his vehicle and continued away from the scene headed westbound on KY 770. A description of the green colored van was broadcast to deputies on patrol.

A few minutes later, Deputy Shannon Jones met the suspect vehicle on KY 312 at the intersection of KY 363 which is about 5 miles from the scene of the robbery. Deputy Jones made a turnabout activating his emergency equipment however the suspect vehicle failed to stop traveling northbound on KY 363, turning onto Locust Grove Road, and finally turning onto Dewberry Lane.

The suspect vehicle nearly struck several children awaiting their school bus and traveled a short distance to where the roadway ends and fled on foot into the heavily wooded area there.(the van was chased over 4 miles) The van has been recovered and deputies continue to search for the suspects. Surveillance photos have been obtained from Loves truck stop and are attached to this report.

The suspects are being sought for robbery, assault, wanton endangerment, and fleeing or evading police- both with vehicle and on foot.
