Suspects arrested following Hit and Run injury traffic crash / Laurel County

Laurel County, Ky. -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Gary Mehler along with Deputy Joey Robinson arrested two individuals off Hanes Baker Road, approximately 8 miles South of London on Monday night January 7, 2019 at approximately 10:08 PM.\

The arrests were the result of an investigation into a hit and run injury traffic crash which had occurred earlier at 8:43 PM at the intersection of American greeting card Road and North Hills Rd. more than 2 miles away from where the arrests occurred.

The investigating deputies reported that they were dispatched to an injury traffic collision and upon arrival at the scene learned that the occupants of a maroon colored Chevrolet Lumina that was involved in the crash had fled the scene on foot.

Witnesses stated that the male passenger appeared to be intoxicated. A passenger in the victim vehicle had to be transported to Baptist healthcare hospital for treatment of injuries from the traffic crash. When deputies finished their investigation at the scene they developed information on the possible whereabouts of the two suspects traveling to Hanes Baker Road where they located the male suspect in the hallway of a residence there and located the female driver hiding in a bedroom closet.

Both individuals were arrested. Deputy Mehler determined through investigation that the driver had a suspended operator’s license and learned from her that she hadn’t had a license for 17 years. The run vehicle had no insurance, and was a title only vehicle and displayed a license plate from another vehicle.

In addition, it was determined that the female driver had four outstanding warrants from two counties. The female driver advised that she and her male occupant had apparently been fighting/arguing when he grabbed her arms causing her to pull her vehicle out into the other car causing the collision.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

The driver Traci Lynn Saylor age 43 of Hanes Baker Road, Corbin, KY -Charged with leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid in an accident involving serious physical injury; failure of nonowner operator to maintain required insurance – first offense; operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license; no registration receipt; no registration plates; improper display of registration plates. In addition, this subject was charged on a Bell County District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court regarding 4 counts of shoplifting under $500 and public intoxication – controlled substances. In addition, this subject was charged on a Bell District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of operating on suspended or revoked operator’s license and failure of nonowner operator to maintain required insurance. In addition, this subject was charged on a Harlan Circuit Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of flagrant nonsupport; persistent felony offender. Also, this subject was charged on a Harlan Circuit Court bench warrant of arrest charging probation violation regarding charges of flagrant nonsupport; persistent felony offender.

Also arrested was Robert Perkins age 49 of Morris Ln., Harlan, KY -Charged with alcohol intoxication.

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
