Laurel Sheriff's Office Activity Report for 2018

Laurel County, Ky. - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, deputies, detectives and staff had a busy, active year in 2018.

 There was a total of 24,567 calls for service. This total reflects an increase of 2,713 more calls for service than last year. Attached is a listing of the more significant calls for service:

  • Disturbance complaints- including (prowlers, noise, shooting guns, refusal to leave, disputes, and harassment—3,035
  • Traffic complaints-including (Dui, road rage, reckless driving)—1, 354
  • School Safety Walk Throughs--333
  • Traffic crashes investigated- 2064 (including 11 Fatal crashes)
  • Death Investigations-12
  • Murder –3
  • Speak to deputy – 807
  • Violent crimes (including Robbery, Rape, Kidnapping)-18
  • Suicidal subjects – 197
  • Domestic violence complaints –(Including assaults)- 964
  • Drug complaints- 256
  • Extra patrol requests – 614
  • ATL (Attempt to Locate)—781
  • Checking on the well-being of persons –(Welfare check)-- 1021
  • Suspicious persons – 692
  • Missing persons including juvenile runaways--240
  • Alarms – 2653
  • Escorts (including funeral escorts)-211
  • Burglary and thefts-1275
  • Vandalism-139
  • Assisting social services with referrals--213
  • Prisoner transports/mental instability transports--491

    Sheriff John Root stated that: "Laurel County citizens can expect the same level of professional and courteous service on a daily basis from the Laurel County Sheriff's office. There will be a continued emphasis on the removal of intoxicated drivers from Laurel County roadways and drug investigations and the "War on Drugs" will continue."
