KSP Investigates Armed Robbery and Kidnapping of Adult in Madison County


RICHMOND, Ky. (December 12, 2018) –The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was called just after 5:00 pm today in reference to a possible kidnapping of an adult that occurred at a residence on Four Mile Road, just east of Richmond in Madison County.

The initial investigation alleges that Anthony Lawson, 28 years old of Mt. Vernon, and Joyce Hembree, 36 years old, of Richmond, unlawfully entered a residence and confronted the alleged victim. During the encounter, the victim was assaulted and forced to get into a vehicle. Law enforcement located the suspected vehicle at the Fifth Third Bank in Richmond, at which time Lawson and Hembree were taken into custody without incident.

The victim was safely freed from the vehicle and transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Richmond where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Anthony Lawson and Joyce Hembree were arrested, and are lodged in the Madison County Detention Center. Lawson is charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, Kidnapping of an Adult, Robbery 1st Degree, and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. Hembree is charged with Burglary 1st Degree, Kidnapping of an Adult, Attempted Robbery 1st Degree, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, and Prescription Controlled Substance in Improper Container.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 7 Trooper Jamie Smith. He was assisted at the scene by KSP Personnel, Richmond Police Department, Madison County EMS, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
