Two arrested as Laurel deputies investigate Bomb Threat

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards along with Deputy Taylor McDaniel, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Capt. Kevin Berry, Sgt. John Inman, Deputy John Wright, and Deputy Josh Scott arrested two individuals early Thursday morning November 29, 2018 at approximately 7:47 AM.

The arrests occurred off Ky. 1376 approximately 5 miles north of London after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that a male subject at a residence there was involved in a verbal argument with other family members and allegedly threatened to blow the house up with a pipe bomb.

In addition, deputies learned that the suspect’s three children ages 4, 5 and 6 were apparently still in the residence. The suspect’s mother and father had allegedly escaped from the residence.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they noted that the male suspect and another male individual, and the three children were still inside the residence.

When deputies surrounded the residence, the suspect emerged from the residence onto the front porch where he was taken into custody. During the investigation, the suspect began to yell and scream and created a disturbance failing to comply with arresting officers. Following a short struggle with deputies the suspect was placed into custody.

As deputies conducted a security sweep inside the residence, a second male adult male subject was found in a bedroom in possession of an unopened needle containing a liquid substance, spoons containing suspected residue, a crystal substance located on the bottom of a can, pipes, a baggie containing a crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine, and snorting straws. When deputies questioned this individual, he threw the uncapped needle at law enforcement officers there putting them in jeopardy, and struggled with officers before being taken into custody.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

  • The subject who was threatening to blow up the home – Sean Frederick age 32 of Highway 1376, East Bernstadt, charged with assault – 4thdegree; criminal abuse – second-degree; resisting arrest.
  • The subject found in a bedroom of the residence and identified as: Jonathon Wendell Bowling age 28 of Highway 1376, East Bernstadt, charged with possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance – third-degree; possession of drug paraphernalia; resisting arrest; three counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim; prescription controlled substances not in proper container – first offense.

    In addition, this subject was charged on 2 bench warrants of arrest charging failure to appear in court.

  • The alleged pipe bomb was determined to be a toilet paper roll wrapped in tape to appear to be a bomb.

    Both arrested individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
