Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: the Laurel County Sheriff's Office has added another K-9 team, now making two teams on patrol in Laurel County.
Deputy Jake Miller and his K-9 “Gotcha” is our new addition. Gotcha is a German Shepherd and was obtained from David and Cindy Cobb of Free Spirit Kennels.
This fully trained, K–9 team is now certified as a police utility dog which comprises the following areas: Obedience and tracking. In addition, this team is certified in drug and narcotic detection including: Methamphetamine, Heroin, Cocaine, and Marijuana.
The Laurel County Sheriff's Office K-9 teams spent the week in Paris, TN attending the NNDDA (National Narcotic Detector Dog Association) certification course.
Deputy Jake Miller with K-9 “Gotcha” and Deputy Daniel Grigsby with K-9 “Edge” successfully completed the annual training. In addition, both K-9 teams completed an additional 32 hour decoy course through NNDDA.
Sheriff Root stated that" this K-9 addition is the second for the sheriff’s office and will play a vital role in our continuing "War on Drugs".
Both of our K-9 teams will be a vital part of the Sheriff's office, and are a valuable asset to the citizens of Laurel County. They will respond to calls for service and are specialized teams whose specific skills will be a critical asset to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office."
