Criminal Abuse arrests - Laurel County

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Jake Miller along with Deputy Travis Napier arrested two individuals off Silo Road off Patton Road, approximately 9 miles north of London on Sunday night November 11, 2018 at approximately 11:00 PM.

The arrests occurred after deputies were dispatched to a complaint of a male subject in a verbal argument with his girlfriend there.

When deputies arrived at the scene they learned that the nine-year-old daughter of the female inside the residence had apparently went outside the residence because she heard the argument and did not know what would happen.

When she exited the residence, the male subject inside told her if she didn't come back inside he was locking her outside. Deputies noted the temperature to be 35° outside and the child had only a short sleeve shirt on and no jacket.

The nine-year-old went to a neighbor's residence seeking help – the neighbor called the child's grandfather. The male subject and his girlfriend inside the residence refused to come out of the residence and after approximately two hours of negotiation, Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards convinced the pair to exit the residence where following an investigation, the two individuals were arrested by deputies.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

Brett D. Larson age 51 and Carrie Beth Morgan age 43 both of Patton Rd., East Bernstadt both charged with criminal abuse – first-degree – child 12 or under and both were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
