Police: Marijuana headed for local schools seized / Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: the Laurel County Sheriff’s office detained a Laurel County 16-year-old male juvenile following an investigation resulting from a follow-up investigation while assisting Kentucky State Police and FBI on Saturday morning October 20, 2018 off Ky. 229 in Southeast Laurel County.

 As a result of the investigation 11 pounds of marijuana oil, 16 pounds of high grade California marijuana, 30 pounds of gummies laced with marijuana oil, and 349 vape pins were seized.

The 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with trafficking marijuana over 5 pounds; possession of drug paraphernalia; three counts of possession of a handgun by a minor.

This individual was court ordered detained at the juvenile detention center in Breathitt County.

Investigation has determined that the marijuana was headed into our local schools.

The investigation at the Laurel County Sheriff’s office is being conducted by Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective James Sizemore.

Assisting on the investigation and at the scene for the Laurel County Sheriff’s office was Capt. Kevin Berry, Detective Bryon Lawson, Deputy Joey Robinson, Deputy John Wright, Deputy Jake Miller. Also assisting was Kentucky State Police.
