Clay County resident accused of Fleeing Police in Motor Vehicle & multiple other offenses

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Joey Robinson along with Deputy Daniel Grigsby and Deputy John Wright arrested Matthew Hammons age 30 of Dripping Springs Road, Manchester on Tuesday afternoon October 16, 2018 at approximately 1:08 PM.

The arrest occurred on Keavy Road approximately 2 miles South of London after deputies received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle – (a blue pickup truck) near a business off Ky. 363 (Keavy Road).

Deputies responded to the area of the complaint and while enroute met the suspect vehicle heading northbound on Ky. 363, verifying the license plate on the vehicle as the suspect vehicle they were looking for.

When deputies attempted a traffic stop near Ky. 1006, the vehicle failed to stop driving in a reckless manner through a roundabout and attempting to swerve over into one of the deputie's cruisers before finally coming to a stop.

The driver was given commands to exit the vehicle but failed to comply and had to be removed and following a short scuffle, the suspect was taken into custody.

Matthew Hammons was charged with fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle; resisting arrest; possession of drug paraphernalia; operating a motor vehicle under the influence – second offense; illegally possessing prescription blanks – first offense. This individual was lodged in the Laurel County detention center.
