Driver and 4 passengers arrested after a traffic stop in Laurel Co.

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root along with Major Chuck Johnson, Capt. Kevin Berry, Lieut. Greg Poynter, Sgt. Brett Reeves, and Detective Bryon Lawson arrested five individuals on Friday afternoon October 12, 2018 at approximately 12:28 PM.

The arrests occurred on Ky. 30 approximately 2 miles northeast of London following a traffic stop conducted on a black Volkswagen Passat that had weaved across the centerline numerous times.

During the stop it was determined that the driver was under the influence. In addition, passengers in the vehicle were found with drug paraphernalia and pills and all passengers were determined to be under the influence.

The five individuals arrested were identified as:

  1. The driver, Arlo G. Harris age 56 of Little Arthur Ridge Road, East Bernstadt charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense and failure to wear seatbelts. This subject stated he takes Suboxone.
  2. Crystal Whitaker age 34 of Pennington Drive, East Bernstadt charged with possession of drug paraphernalia – this subject was found with a used needle in her possession and she admitted that she had used it to shoot Suboxone.
  3. Kimberly R. Fields  age 50 of Pennington Drive, East Bernstadt charged with public intoxication – controlled substances – this subject admitted taking Suboxone.
  4. Mary Harris age 55 of Little Arthur Ridge Road, East Bernstadt charged with possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – second offense – this subject was found in possession of Suboxone and Neurotin in a pill bottle that was not in her name. This individual attempted to hide the bottle during the investigation.
  5. Farron A. Miller age 37 of Chapel Road, East Bernstadt charged with public intoxication – controlled substances. This subject stated he had been taking Suboxone. In addition, this subject was charged on 4 outstanding warrants including a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence; a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of theft by unlawful taking under $500; a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of fleeing or evading police – second-degree – motor vehicle and reckless driving; a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of license to be in possession.

All five individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
