PSA: Upcoming Clay County Extension Programs for September 2018

 


MANCHESTER, KY - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for September, 2018

4-H Mini Corn Hole Project will be September 6th at 4:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  Come and create your own mini corn hole set!  This 4-H project gives you the chance to be creative and have fun!  FREE & open to all youth ages 9-19.  Limited spots are available!  Please call the office at 598-2789 to register.

A Year of Recipes is scheduled for September 11th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Come learn how to prepare different recipes that are low cost.  Enjoy an evening of preparing food with others that share your interest.  The recipes we will use come from our calendars we hand out every year.  Call 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.

Tie Dye Pillows will be September 13th at 6:00 pm.  Come have some fun creating a one-of-a-kind tie dye pillow cover.  Enjoy using these in your bedroom, living room or giving as a gift.  This is a great way to create some fun and add some color to your home.  Pillow cover is for a 16x15 inch pillow.  Class supplies are limited so call 598-2789 to register.  Free and open to the public.

♦Our next 4-H Teen Club meeting will be on September 17th at 5:00 pm at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds. This club is open to middle school aged and high school aged students interested in developing leadership skills and enjoy working to better the community and 4-H!  This club is a good way to meet new people, attend leadership events, become a camp counselor and help your community!  Call Alissa at 598-2789 for more information on joining the 4-H Teen Club.

That’s a Wrap! (Homemaker Leader Training) is September 19th at 10:00 am.   Gift giving isn’t just for Holidays!  There are times when a simple gift can go a long way for a friendship or a family member.  This lesson will teach you gift ideas to give to others either for birthdays, thinking of you, or just to show thanks.  It will give ideas on who to be thoughtful to and low cost ways to show your gratitude. Program is free and open to the public, but you must call 598-2789 to register.

♦The next Beekeeping Workshop will be Saturday, September 22nd at 9:00 am at the EXCEL building.  Beginner session at 9 am – topics include: Why Bees Rock, Diversity of Bees, Bee Anatomy and Genetics, How Bees Reproduce & Life Cycle and Different Types of Hives.  Intermediate session at 12 pm – topics include: Conduct Hive Inspections, Pulling of any Remaining Honey Supers, Varroa Mite Treatment, Hive Beetle & Wax Moth Management and Feeding of Bees.  Beginner sessions are inside in a classroom environment.  Intermediate is outside and hands-on at a bee farm conveniently located near the morning session.  Beginners will learn terms, concepts and overall beekeeping knowledge.  Beginners may want to attend the afternoon session as well, but they will need protective clothing.  Intermediate beekeepers have existing colonies, at least a year of experience and need to bring their own protective clothing and tools to the workshop.  Lunch will be provided!  No charge for this workshop.  For more information and to register, so that we have enough food for everyone, please call Jeff at 598-2789 or Joel Gonia at 502-235-0727.
