LESLIE COUNTY MOTHER CHARGED AFTER LEAVING HER CHILDREN IN LOCKED VEHICLE

Manchester, KY - On August 21, 2018 Officer Jason Combs and Assistant Chief Patrick Robinson were dispatched to a call at EKU of Manchester where two kids had been left in a locked vehicle.

 Upon arrival Officers discovered two small children one 3 year old and one 1 year old locked inside of a white SUV. The children were strapped into their car seats and were not wearing clothes.

Officers unlocked the vehicle and removed the children from the vehicle. The outside temperature was 77 degrees but was a whole lot hotter inside of the car.

Officers searched for the mother of the children and discovered her inside of the building. The mother Whitney Elam from Leslie County was arrested and charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor and two counts of Wanton Endangerment.

It was determined that the children had been left alone in the vehicle for 25 to 30 minutes. The children were taken into protective custody.

Officers were assisted at the scene by The Cabinet for Health and Human Services.

Whitney Elam was lodged in the Clay County Detention Center.
