KSP - Fatal Collison in Knox County

Boone Heights, Ky. - On August 30, 2018 at 3:57 p.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call about a single vehicle collision on Ky 3439 in the Boone Heights area of Knox County. Tpr. Josh Cox, Tpr. Sammy Faris, and Tpr. John Corey responded to the collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates Tony Smith (52) of Flat Lick was traveling south on Ky 3439 while in the north bound lane. Mr. Smith was operating a 1996 white Ford Ranger and the only occupant inside of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Witnesses state Mr. Smith left the roadway and entered into a ditch just prior to oncoming traffic.

Mr. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene by Deputy’s with the Knox County Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and drugs are not known at this time. Health conditions may be a contributing factor into the collision as well. Mr. Smith had his seatbelt on at the time of the collision.

Collision is still under investigation by Tpr. Josh Cox.

Also assisting at the scene were Barbourville Police Department, Barbourville Fire Department, Knox County Coroner’s Office, and Knox County Ambulance Service.
