PSA: Upcoming Clay County Extension Programs for August 2018



MANCHESTER, KY - Clay County Cooperative Extension Service upcoming programs for August, 2018

Apron/Clothing Protector Sewing Days will be August 2nd from 1:00 -3:00 pm at the Extension Office.  We will be sewing clothing protectors and aprons for the patients at Bluegrass Hospice.  Everyone is welcome to attend and bring your machine to help others in need.  Please call 598-2789 to let us know you are coming. FREE.

♦A Year of Recipes is scheduled for August 9th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  Come learn how to prepare different recipes that are low cost.  Enjoy an evening of preparing food with others that share your interest.  The recipes we will use come from our calendar we hand out every year.  Call 598-2789 to register.  FREE and open to the public.

4-H String Art will be on August 14th at 4:30 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  Join us and create your own state of Kentucky string art!  FREE & open to all you ages 9-17.  Please call 598-2789 to register by Friday, August 10th.

♦Plate It Up Cooking School will be held August 16th at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  We will be preparing two Plate It Up recipes for your enjoyment.  Fruits and vegetables in the recipes can be raised in Kentucky gardens.  Please call Lora at 598-2789 to register for an evening of food preparation.  This program is FREE and open to the public.

♦Our next 4-H Teen Club meeting will be on August 20th at 5:00 pm at the Clay County Extension Office.  This club is open to middle school aged and high school aged students interested in developing leadership skills and enjoy working to better the community and 4-H! This club is a good way to meet new people, attend leadership events, become a camp counselor and help your community!  Call Alissa at 598-2789 for more information on joining the 4-H Teen Club.  FREE & open to all youth ages 9-17.

Hazel Jackson will be here for our first homemaker leader training lesson of the 2018-19 year “Let’s Learn How to Applique”. The lesson will be held August 21st at 10:00 am at the Extension Office.  This program is FREE and open to the public, but you must call 598-2789 and register.

It’s All About the Bread is on August 23rd at 6:00 pm at the Extension Office.  We will be learning how to make zucchini bread.  You planted several hills of summer squash and now have more zucchini than you can prepare.  What can you do?  Make zucchini bread or other recipes.  Come enjoy an evening of preparing bread.  FREE & open to the public!

Blue To You is scheduled for August 24th at 10:00 am at the Extension Office.  Blue to You is a depression awareness program to give faces to depression, symptoms, co-existing illnesses, causes, treatments, and how different people experience depression.  With the recent suicides of two well-known celebrities that were depressed, there are more people who may be experiencing depression than what we know.  Come learn about this disease that no one wants to talk about.  FREE and open to the public, but please call 598-2789 to register.

4-H Chefs in Training will be on August 30th at 4:30 pm at the EXCEL building beside McDonalds.  Join us as we learn kitchen tricks, safety and new cooking skills!  Homemade treats for August …….Marshmallow Cereal Bars!  FREE & open to all youth ages 9-18. (If younger, a parent or guardian is required to stay.)  Please call 598-2789 to register by Friday, August 24th.

♦Mum Field Day will be on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Maple Crest Farm home of Kevin and Linda Cornett at 12:00 noon.  Steve Berberich, UK Horticulture Specialist, will be with us to talk about all aspects of mum production.  You will also be able to purchase or reserve a mum to pick up later for your fall decorating.  Please call the office at 598-2789 for more information and directions to the farm. FREE & open to the public!
