Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards, lead investigator into the missing person case of Sherry T. Rose, along with assistance from other Laurel County Sheriff's Deputies, Kentucky State Police, Clay County Sheriff's Office, Clay County Coroner's Office, and Clay County Ambulance Service, has arrested four individuals regarding Sherry Roses's disappearance and following an extensive investigation developed leads and located a body in a state of decomposition in Clay County off Reynolds Road near the Laurel County line early Tuesday morning June 19, 2018 at approximately 4:00 A.M..
The body will be sent to the Crime Lab in Frankfort for autopsy and positive identification. However, based on the investigation, the deceased individual is believed to be Sherry Rose.
Detective Sgt. Edwards reports that during his investigation it was learned that apparently there had been a physical altercation on Friday afternoon June 15, 2018 at approximately 2:00 P.M. at the victim's residence off Thoroughbred Trail in southern Laurel County between Sherry Rose's son-in-law, daughter and Sherry Rose resulting in a stab wound to Sherry Rose causing her death.
The victim's daughter and son-in-law then purchased materials including mops, bleach and ammonia to clean up the crime scene. In addition, the two accused allegedly used the victim's debit card to remove $500 from an ATM.
While cleaning up the crime scene the accused allegedly put the deceased victim into a suitcase and transported her in the trunk of the victim's car to a rural location in Laurel County where two other individuals helped to dispose of the body. The victim's car has been recovered off Roark Road in southern Laurel County.
Arrested was:
Joseph Craig McFadden age 31 of Thoroughbred Trail, Corbin was arrested at apartments 8 miles south of London after the Laurel County Sheriff's office developed information on his whereabouts was charged with:
- Murder
- Two counts of tampering with physical evidence
- Theft by unlawful taking $500 or more under $10,000
- Abuse of a corpse
- Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot
This subject attempted to flee when Laurel County deputies located him.
Christie Elizabeth McFadden age 28 of Thoroughbred Trail, Corbin arrested at apartments 8 miles south of London and charged with:
- Complicity to commit murder
- Two counts of tampering with physical evidence
- Theft by unlawful taking $500 or more but under $10,000
- Abuse of a corpse
- Fleeing or evading police – first-degree – on foot
This subject attempted to flee from Laurel County deputies when located.
Michael Hinkle age 48 of London charged with:
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Abuse of a corpse
This subject and others helped to discard the body of a deceased female after she had been killed and drove the pickup truck with the body in the back end of the vehicle and took the body to a location in Clay County throwing it over an embankment in an attempt to hide the body.
Cody Allen Hinkle age 24 of London charged with:
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Abuse of a corpse
This subject was an occupant in the pickup truck with the body in the back end of the vehicle and took the body to a location in Clay County throwing it over an embankment in an attempt to hide the body.
All four arrested individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
