Complaint leads to the arrest of a Manchester man & a London woman at the Laurel County Courthouse

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kyle Gray along with Maj. Chuck Johnson, Capt. Kevin Berry, Lt. Greg Poynter, and Bailiff Daniel Reed arrested two individuals off Main Street in London on Thursday morning June 14, 2018 at approximately 10:15 A.M..

The arrests occurred after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that a possible intoxicated female subject was at the child support office at the Laurel County Courthouse.

When deputies arrived they located the female subject and conducted an investigation determining that she was under the influence. The subject admitted taking Suboxone earlier. In addition, it was learned that this subject had her eight-month-old male child in the vehicle outside and had been driven to the office by the father of her child.

Deputies conducted an investigation on the male subject (reportedly the father of the child) in the vehicle with the eight-month-old child and determined through investigation that the male subject in the driver seat of the vehicle with the engine running was under the influence – this subject admitted to snorting Methamphetamine and using Suboxone earlier.

The two arrested individuals were identified as: 

The driver of the vehicle, Elmer Steven Smith age 45 of Manchester, KY -Charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; wanton endangerment – second degree; and numerous other violations.

The female subject and the mother of the eight-month-old child who was found in the Laurel County Courthouse and identified as Sarah Desirah Roberts age 27 of London, KY - Charged with public intoxication – control substances; wanton endangerment – second degree; and another violation.

These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
