Injury accident June 6 on KY 229

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kyle Gray along with Sgt. Brett Reeves and Bailiff Roy Ball investigated a two vehicle injury traffic crash which occurred on Ky. 229 approximately 5 miles south of London on Wednesday afternoon June 6, 2018 at approximately 12:03 PM.

Investigating deputies report that apparently a northbound tractor-trailer had a metal piece of the back inside wheel of the trailer break off the vehicle and hit on the pavement and flew into the air traveling through the front windshield on the passenger side of a full-size van traveling southbound on Kentucky 229.

The tractor-trailer continued to near the city limits of London before pulling off after noticing smoke coming from the back side of his trailer. At this time another vehicle that had witnessed the crash advised the driver that a piece of his vehicle had fallen off and struck a vehicle. The tractor-trailer remained on the side of the road until investigating deputies arrived.

A passenger in the full-size van received head injuries where the chunk of metal flew through the windshield striking her and coming to rest in the rear of the van.

The tractor-trailer driver was identified as Travis Owens of Middlesboro – no injuries reported.

The driver of the full-size van was identified as Tony Jackson age 60 of Florence Kentucky – no injuries reported. His wife was a passenger in the van and was identified as Mary Jackson age 58 also of Florence Kentucky – transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to St. Joseph Hospital London for treatment of head injuries.
