KSP - Traffic Crash / Pulaski County



Somerset, Ky.  - On Thursday, May 31, 2018 at approximately 9:50 AM, Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a two-vehicle traffic crash involving a Pulaski County Deputy Sheriff at the intersection of US HWY 27 and KY HWY 914 in the Somerset community of Pulaski County.

Upon arrival, Trooper Sean Dixon determined that Deputy Aaron M. Curtis, 35, of Somerset was operating a 2017 Dodge Charger patrol car, traveling southbound on US HWY 27 with his emergency equipment activated, responding to a call. Further investigation revealed that as Deputy Curtis approached the intersection he struck a 2018 Nissan Frontier pickup, which was traveling eastbound through the intersection, operated by Melinda D. Lawless, 31, of Russell Springs, KY. Further investigation revealed that Lawless failed to yield the right of way for an emergency vehicle.

One juvenile sustained minor injuries and was transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital via a family member.

Trooper Dixon is continuing the investigation. He was assisted by Troopers from Post 11, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and Pulaski County EMS.
