KSP Continues Search for Wanted Jackson County Man



MCKEE, Ky. (May 1, 2018) – The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post received a tip that Terry Hammonds, wanted in connection to a double murder that happened in December, was seen driving an ATV on Happy Top Road in Jackson County yesterday morning.

As a result, KSP Post 7 Troopers responded to the area in search of Terry Hammonds and found someone matching his description driving an ATV at approximately 1:45 pm. The initial investigation alleges that when Troopers stopped to confront the suspect, he pulled out a gun and shot at them, at which time they returned fire. The shooter ran into the woods, and was last seen wearing a black sleeveless shirt and camo pants. A thorough search of the area was conducted throughout the afternoon and evening, however the suspect was not located. No Troopers were injured during the shooting, and it is unknown if the suspect sustained any injuries.

The Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post has charged one person with murder, and is asking for the public’s help locating another Jackson County man as the result of an ongoing death investigation.

The initial investigation indicates that Joey R. Marcum, 35 years old, and Whitney R. Venable, 28 years old, both of McKee were killed during an incident in Jackson County this past December. At approximately 3:15 pm on December 28, 2017, Jackson County Dispatch received a call of a vehicle fire on Rock Lick Road. When first responders arrived at the scene, they located two deceased individuals, later identified as Joey Marcum and Whitney Venable.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Bobby L. Hammonds, 40 years old of McKee, was arrested yesterday afternoon and is lodged in the Jackson County Detention Center charged with two counts of Murder. In addition, Terry L. Hammonds, 41 years old of McKee, is wanted for two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
