DUI/Drug arrest in eastern Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Detective Kyle Gray along with Deputy Taylor McDaniel, and Sgt. Phil Barnard arrested two individuals off Ky. 80 approximately 3 miles east of London in a business parking lot on Monday afternoon April 30, 2018 at approximately 4:04 PM.


The arrests occurred after deputies were dispatched to a complaint that a male and female subject were passed out inside of a red Ford Focus with the engine running.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they located the suspect vehicle with a male driver passed out with a glass pipe between his legs and a syringe hanging off the rear view mirror. Deputies also located a female passenger passed out in the front seat.

Deputies were finally able to awaken the two suspects in the vehicle and conducted an investigation determining that the two individuals were under the influence.

The two individuals were found in possession of suspected Xanax pills, marijuana, glass pipes with suspected meth, and syringes. The two individuals admitted using methamphetamine and marijuana earlier. The driver admitted using Xanax also.

The two arrested individuals were identified as:

  • The driver – Dennis James Lawson age 43 of Swafford Drive, London, KY charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence – first offense; four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; and numerous other violations.
  • The passenger – Ashley Nicole Lewis age 21 of Greasy Road, Manchester, KY charged with public intoxication- controlled substances; four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous other violations.
  • These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
