Five arrests as "War on Drugs" continues in Laurel County

Laurel, County, KY -  Sheriff John Root, Laurel Sheriff's Detective Chris Edwards along with Detective Sgt.  Kevin Berry, Lt. Greg Poynter, Detective Kyle Gray, Deputy Brandon Broughton, Deputy Josh Scott, Sgt. Jack Caudill, and Bailiff Jerry Poynter  arrested 5 individuals on drug charges off American Greeting Card Road, 9 miles south of London on Tuesday afternoon March 13, 2018 at approximately 1:23 P.M.

The arrests occurred while the Sheriff's office was conducting a trespassing complaint there, and deputies located a large amount of suspected crystal meth, drug paraphernalia including a glass pipe, needles, baggies, U.S. currency and hydrocodone. 4 small children were located there also, and it was learned that meth had been used by occupants in the apartment there while the children were present. Social Services was called to the scene, and the children placed with other family members.

Those arrested included:

  • Robert K. Owen age 45of Winchester Ave. , Middlesboro,Ky charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; and four counts of criminal abuse – first-degree. In addition, this subject was charged on a Bell circuit court indictment warrant charging possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – third offense – methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a controlled substance – third-degree.
  • Courtney N. Roark, age 24 of Holloway Dr., Corbin charged with criminal abuse – first-degree.
  • Christine A. Martin age 28 Of Winchester Ave., Middlesboro, KY charged with possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine: and possession of a controlled substance – second-degree – hydrocodone; possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal abuse – first-degree – her small child was present.
  • Sarah C.Tye age 27 of Corbin Manor  apartments, Corbin charged with two counts of criminal abuse – first-degree – her two minor children were present.
  • Christian William Tye age 24 Of Brook Place Lane, LaFollette, Tennessee charged with criminal trespass – first-degree; possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; and four counts of criminal abuse – first-degree.
  • One subject arrested apparently ingested drugs as the sheriff's office arrived on scene---the subject was transported to St. Joseph hospital for treatment of possible drug overdose, and was lodged after release from the hospital by deputies who escorted him to the hospital.

    All 5 individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
