School safety walk throughs conducted in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY -  Sheriff John Root is reporting that: On Tuesday February 20th, 2018 Laurel County Sheriff's Supervisors, deputies, and detectives conducted school safety walk throughs at schools throughout Laurel County.

Deputies were present greeting students, and parents and walking through school's hallways and school grounds at North Laurel Middle School and other schools to provide an increased level of safety and security for students and staff throughout Laurel County because of recent events in Florida and Kentucky.

This increased level of protection will be continuing by Laurel County Deputies at schools throughout Laurel County in cooperation with Laurel County School Superintendent Doug Bennett.

In addition, random, unscheduled safety checks will continue routinely throughout the school year, and each year to help provide a safe learning environment.

Please keep this in mind as you see Laurel County Sheriff's deputies patrol cars in the school parking lots and when your children tell you about seeing deputies walking the hallways of their school.

Sheriff John Root stated that "our children are among our greatest assets in Laurel County. Their safety is our priority at the Laurel County Sheriff's office."
