"Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign concludes



London, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that the Laurel County Sheriff's office participated in the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign that began on December 16, 2017 and ran through the Christmas, and New Year's holidays concluding on January 1st, 2018.

This effort is conducted annually leading up to the end of year holidays for citizens.

During this period, officers statewide including Laurel County Sheriff's deputies participated in this endeavor in an attempt to concentrate on removing impaired drivers from Laurel County Roads and statewide.

Deputies also concentrated on seat belt violations, child safety seat violations, and distracted driving. Our goal was and is to help keep Laurel County families safe, and to make Laurel County roads safer during the holidays, and everyday.

Sheriff John Root reports that the campaign was a huge success with 4 Impaired drivers being arrested.

Also the following citations were issued:

Seat belts-9; Child restraints-1; Speeding-12; other traffic citations-134. One traffic fatality was investigated by sheriff's deputies.

In addition Laurel sheriff's deputies arrested 10 individuals on drug charges, three parole violators, five persons on theft charges, four -resisting arrest, wanton endangerment – one, kidnapping – one, creating a disturbance – seven, carrying concealed weapon – one, fleeing police on foot. 

In addition, stolen property was recovered off McWhorter Road, a stolen pickup with two arrests occurred on US 25 E, a kidnapping arrest in southern Laurel, a serious crash involving a hit and run DUI driver with an arrest on Ralley Road, a DUI arrest at a traffic crash involving a stolen pickup near Lily on US 25, and a drug arrest in southern Laurel with assistance from the Sheriff's office K-9.

Sheriff John Root reminds citizens to always drive defensively, and always expect the unexpected.

Deputies will continue to aggressively remove impaired drivers from Laurel County Roads each and every day.
