A Clay County resident & another individual arrested in Laurel County on drug charges

Laurel Sheriff John Root along with Deputy Shannon Jones, and Deputy Daniel Grigsby and his K-9 "Edge" arrested two individuals on drug charges early Monday morning November 27, 2017 at approximately 3:01 AM.


The arrest occurred off West Cumberland Gap Parkway approximately 10 miles south of London after a suspicious vehicle was observed there occupied by two subjects.


An investigation was conducted and with the assistance of the Sheriff's office K-9, occupants of the vehicle were found in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The two individuals arrested were identified as:

  • Josey V. Cruse age 29 of Oneida, Kentucky charged with possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Amber L. Smith age 25 of Tackett Spur Road, Lily, Kentucky charged with possession of a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • These two individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
