One person dead, two others airlifted after Monday night crash in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff's Deputy Jake Miller along with Detective Chris Edwards are investigating a single vehicle fatal traffic crash which occurred on Sally's Branch Road, approximately 2 miles east of London on Monday night October 2, 2017 at approximately 11:31 PM.

The investigating deputies report that apparently a small SUV was traveling westbound on Sally's Branch Road when the vehicle traveled out of control, ran off the roadway and struck a tree head-on. Three persons were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the front seat of the vehicle was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene and is identified as: Connie Smith age 53 of London.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as the husband of Connie Smith – Randy Smith age 51 of London – air lifted by medical helicopter to UK Hospital Lexington for treatment of serious injuries.

A passenger in the back seat of the vehicle was identified as Kevin Lawson age 41 of London – air lifted by medical helicopter to UK Hospital Lexington for treatment of serious injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Also assisting for the Sheriff's Office at the scene and on the investigation is Capt.Chuck Johnson, Deputy Daniel Grigsby, and Deputy Shannon Jones. Also assisting was the Laurel County Fire Department, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad, Air Evac Medical Helicopter, PHI Medical Helicopter, and the Laurel County Coroner's Office.
