Officer involved shooting in Knox County
UPDATE: Sunday July 23, 2017 @2:50 P.M.
Barbourville, Ky. (July 22, 2017) - On July 22, 2017 at 1:29 p.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan was contacted by Knox County Dispatch requested assistance with an officer involved shooting in Barbourville. Tpr. Johnathon Corey, Sgt. Jason Bunch and Detectives from Post 10 were notified to be in route to the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates at 1:06 p.m. Knox County Dispatch received a call about a silver Ford Mustang traveling south bound on U.S. 25E reckless and at a high rate of speed. Barbourville police officers were dispatched to attempt to locate this vehicle. Officers located the Ford Mustang traveling at a high rate of speed at U.S.25E and Ky 11. Officers activated their emergency equipment and the operator failed to stop. Barbourville officers pursued the vehicle approximately two miles before the operator pulled into Buchanan’s Florist parking lot. The driver then exited the vehicle and grabbed a bystander who was in the parking lot. The operator then released the bystander and started walking toward officers with one hand behind his back. According to officers and witnesses the individual was told several times to show both his hands. The individual continued to walk toward officers threatening to kill both of them. One of the Barbourville police officers fired his service weapon striking the individual. The male individual was transported from the scene to Knox County ARH and then flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. At this time his condition is not known. Neither of the officers were injured during the incident.
At this time KSP Critical Incident Response Team are on the scene along with detectives from Post 10 to begin an investigation.

UPDATE
Kentucky State Police has identified the operator of the Ford Mustang as Brandon Moses, 29, of Bledsoe Ky. Mr. Moses is listed in critical condition at this time and remains in University of Tennessee Medical Center.

On July 23, 2017 Mr. Moses has been upgraded from critical to serious condition. Barbourville Police Department has also released the following information. KSP will continue to update with information as it comes available.

07-22-17 Officer Involved Shooting Update
07-22-17 officers of the Barbourville Police Department were involved in a shooting following a vehicle pursuit on 25E.
Three Barbourville officers were involved in the incident, with one officer firing shots, which struck the suspect.
All Barbourville officers are physically well and sustained no injuries requiring medical treatment.
The officers are still processing the events in this terrible and stressful incident and are placed on routine administrative leave, which is done following every shooting officers are involved in.

Eric Martin
Donnie Broughton
Charges are pending on Brandon Moses, Baxter, MY, who was flown to UT Medical Center and must be extradited back to Knox County to face those charges.
The Kentucky State Police are investigating the incident.
