Fatal traffic crash on Ky. 229 in Laurel County

Laurel County, KY - Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Deputy Travis Napier along with accident reconstructionist Capt. Chuck Johnson are investigating a two vehicle fatal traffic crash which occurred on Ky 229 approximately 10 miles south of London on Wednesday afternoon November 30, 2016 at approximately 1:58 PM.

The investigating deputies report that apparently a Ford Explorer was traveling southbound on Ky 229 and crossed the centerline hitting a northbound black colored Chevrolet car causing the car to overturn over an embankment off Ky.229.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was identified as Eric Cassidy, he was airlifted by PHI helicopter to UK Hospital Lexington for treatment of injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet car was pronounced deceased at the scene and victim's name will be released after next of kin have been notified.

Assisting at the scene of the crash was Laurel Sheriff's shift Sgt. Robbie Grimes , and Deputy Rick Cloyd. Also assisting was Ambulance Inc. Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad, Campground Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel County Coroner's Office, and PHI helicopter.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE


The driver of the Chev. Malibu car was identified as Sherry King age 47 of Barbourville. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation is continuing.
